"With the heady fervor that has swelled up following the destruction of Proposition 8, there is something that concerns me. It has nothing to do with the ruling (which was 100% legally sound and should agree with thinking liberals and conservatives alike), it has nothing to do with gay marriage itself (if you follow me, you should know my 100% support for it), but rather with the way in which opponents of gay marriage are described. Many are categorized using words such as “bad” or “evil,” often with no modifiers. At the base of it, this is no better than classifying a gay person as “wrong” or “immoral.” You are taking an entire person and passing judgment on that person in relation to one portion of their life. The result is a bifurcation that sets Them (the anti-marriage side) against Us. While it is certainly important to identify when people are being intolerant and short-sighted, we must do so without becoming that way ourselves. If we fail in this task, we will also fail in actually winning people over to our side. Rather, once we have amassed a sizable majority, we will use it in an attempt to steamroll are way to our final goal. Now, whose tactics do those resemble?"
